Fish By Zone 2009-10The 2009/10 season  saw the best Marlin season on record, particularly on the north coast. Record numbers of Striped (1,055) & Blue Marlin (219) were caught.  Sailfish numbers remain high with over 5,000 being caught after the record high of 7,272 in 2008-09 season.

 

Zone 1: Lamu, Kiwayu & Kui. 512 fish tagged. 460 Sailfish (13%),  47 Marlin (4%), 3 Broadbill  & 2 Other.

 

Zone 2: Ziwayu. 7 fish tagged. 6 Sailfish (0%) & 1 Other.

 

Zone 3: Ngomeni. 29 fish tagged. 28 Sailfish (1%), 1 Marlin (0%) & 0 Other.

 

Zone 4: North Kenya Banks. 56 fish tagged. 32 Sailfish (1%), 10 Marlin (1%), 6 Broadbill & 8 Others.

 

Zone 5: Malindi. 1323 fish tagged. 1286 Sailfish (37%), 28 Marlin (3%) & 9 Others.

 

Zone 6: Watamu. 913 fish tagged. 603 Sailfish (18%), 214 Marlin (20%), 6 Broadbill & 90 Other.

 

Zone 7: The Rips. 1488 fish tagged. 784 Sailfish (23%), 633 Marlin (59%), 49 Broadbill & 22 Other.

 

Zone 8: Kilifi. 108 fish tagged. 73 Sailfish (2%), 23 Marlin (2%) & 12 Broadbill .

 

Zone 9: Mombasa & Mtwapa. 71 fish tagged. 46 Sailfish (1%), 23 Marlin (2%) & 2 Broadbill.

 

Zone 10: Shimoni. 206 fish tagged. 113 Sailfish (4%), 91 Marlin (9%), 1 Broadbill & 1 Other.
